K24 TV’s political show Punchline is making a comeback today (Tuesday) from 8:30pm after the station owned by Mediamax Limited replaced Anne Kiguta, who resigned last December.

Former NTV morning show AM Live presenter Debarl Inea will take over from Kiguta with the show set to take on a new panel format as Inea moderates the political debate every Tuesday at the same time.

The show debuted on K24 TV in July 2019 with the former Citizen tv news presenter as its inaugural host before he fell out with the Mediamax management over handling of the show.

Inea is a seasoned host having hosted the most popular political show on daytime television while at NTV before he was axed during a restructuring by the Aga Khan-owned media house.

According to report by Mediamax published on its website, the show will focus on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum and the heated politics ahead of the 2022 General Election.

In her resignation letter in December 2020, Kiguta said she opted to quit following a fundamental disagreement with her bosses on the direction the show was taking.


“Owing to fundamental disagreement on editorial processes and direction the show was being forced to take, I suspended my services as an independent contractor to the show on November 21, 2020.

“My decision was guided by the Code of Conduct contained in the Media Council of Kenya Act which guides all journalists practicing in the republic of Kenya. It is with regret that today I announce that I will not be returning to the programme,” read her statement then.

Punchline provides Inea with a new lease on life to shine in the political show arena that he had dominated before Nation Media Group sacked him amid questions on the wisdom of the move.
