Hennessy will on Friday September 25 be celebrating the 150th anniversary of its Hennessy X.O brand with a one-of-a-kind live event from the banks of River Charente in Cognac, France.

In the celebration, Hennessy has collaborated with renowned fire alchemist, Cai Guo-Qiang, to honor and amplify Hennessy Maison’s universal values of joy, optimism and resilience.

The daytime fireworks live event by Guo-Qiang will be the cornerstone of Hennessy X.O 150th anniversary World Odyssey program and global audience will be able to view via livestream.

This is a first for both Guo-Qiang and Hennessy and viewers will be treated to a performance in which fireworks will be launched from 150 oak barrels to mark the 150 years of Hennessy  X.O.

Hennessy XO was created one hundred and fifty years ago by Maurice Hennessy. The company founder decided to name it XO to mean ‘Extra Old’ to capture its extended aging process.

When the Hennessy XO started its journey in Cognac, France it was little known and unrecognizable as it is today all over the world.

It took the master stroke of designer Gerald de Geoffrey, who created the now famous and elegant bottle it has come to be synonymous with over the recent years.

Nigerians, South Africans and Kenyans are the leading African consumers of the Hennessy brand but Nigeria leads the pack in terms of consumption of the Hennessy XO brans in Africa.

The Hennessy cognac brand was first shipped to Africa in 1886 through South Africa.
