A Ghanaian actress and influencer who posed naked with with her son on his seventh birthday has been jailed for 90 days for posting “obscene material” and “domestic violence”.

Rosemond Brown alias Akuapem Poloo, a single mother, was sentenced to three months in jail after she posed for the photo in June last year and posted it on her social media pages.

Akuapem was widely criticised for the photo, including by her American idol, US singer Cardi B and her followers on social media, even as she defended her decision terming it innocent.

The actress was found guilty of publishing obscene material and carrying out domestic violence by the court sitting in Accra, the Ghanaian capital.

Judge Christiana Cann ruled that her decision undermined another person's privacy or integrity and domestic violence which could harm someone's dignity and self-worth.

Cann ruled that the three charges run consecutively for 90 days, as she raised concern over a sharp rise in cases of child abuse and posting of obscene content in the West African nation.

In her ruling, the judge took note that Akuapem had pleaded guilty, is a single mother, and was also remorseful about the incident.

“Did she ask for the permission of the child before posting the said picture? Did she respect the child's right? No, she did not. A harsh sentence will serve as a deterrent,” Cann ruled.

The actress’ lawyer Andy Vortia already filed an appeal against the sentence on Tuesday terming it too harsh.
