Equity Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr James Mwangi has been appointed to join the Global Board of Advisors of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

CFR, founded in 1921, is an independent American think tank specializing in US Foreign Policy and International Relations and is based in New York City and Washington, DC.

Dr Mwangi welcomed his appointment to the respected think tank saying he will utilize the opportunity to promote positivity about countries in Africa and the potential they possess.

“I am honored to have been asked to join the Council on Foreign Relations Global Board of Advisors and am grateful for the chance to bring a positive African narrative to the discussions,” stated Dr Mwangi.

He added: “The membership of the council includes senior politicians, secretaries of state, CIA directors, bankers, lawyers, professors, corporate directors, CEOs, and prominent media personalities.”

The 12-year-old Board enables CFR to better comprehend global perspectives and enhance dialogue between US leaders in international affairs and their colleagues in other countries.

CFR meetings assembles government officials, global business leaders, and prominent members of the intelligence and foreign-policy communities to discuss international issues.

The American council has also been publishing the esteemed bi-monthly journal Foreign Affairs since 1922 and also publishes research pieces touching on foreign policy.

The Global Board of Advisors (GBA) consists of prominent individuals, among them business leaders, noted academics, and former government officials from developed and emerging-market countries.

The 33-member group provides CFR with insight on their regions and offers a mechanism for members to join discussions on international relations and the US role in the world.

The Council on Foreign Relations Africa Program produces `Africa in Transition’, a blog that focuses on African political and security issues.

The program hosts three roundtable series: "Africa Strategic Opportunities," "Political Transitions in Africa," and "US Strategic African Partners."

The program’s senior fellows regularly lecture students, brief those in government, business, civil society, and the media, and publish op-eds, articles, and books related to Africa.
