President William on Thursday evening departed the country for a two-day official visit to Berlin, Germany where he is set to hold a series of talks aimed at enhancing bilateral ties.

While in Berlin, President Ruto is expected to witness the signing of the Kenya-Germany Agreement on Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership.

The treaty aims to create a framework for cooperation on labour mobility, apprenticeships, student training, employment, employee welfare, and readmission and return of citizens.

Kenya is the official partner country for the 2024 “Bürgerfest” festival themed “Pamoja – Stronger Together” and he is also scheduled to address those in attendance.

This is the first time a non-European country has been picked to become the partner country of the significant festival, which is scheduled for September 13 and 14, 2024.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the partnership between the two nations accords a unique platform for Kenya to showcase her rich cultural heritage to the Germans.

Mohammed added that President Ruto will hold bilateral talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his official visit.

“These meetings will focus on deepening cooperation on areas of mutual interest," he said.

Ruto is also set to meet CEOs in major companies based in Germany including Mercedes Benz, YouTube, and AIDA Cruises in a bid to enhance trade and investment opportunities.

“Germany is a leading foreign direct investor given the presence of over 100 German companies in the country, with investments worth Sh150 billion.

“Nairobi hosts the largest office globally for the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the regional office of Germany's top trade promotion agency, AHK.”

According to State House, the visit will further promote German investment in tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative economy to enhance Berlin-Nairobi relations.
