Safaricom has introduced a new charge for customers who frequently utilise its reverse call service, a move that alters the previously unrestricted access to this popular feature.
The company has updated its terms to include a fee for users who initiate more than two reverse call requests within a single day.
According to the revised guidelines, the first two reverse call requests per day will remain free for users.
However, any additional requests on the same day will incur a charge of Sh0.5 per call.
Safaricom has implemented this measure to address instances where the service is being used excessively, particularly by customers who choose to make reverse calls despite having sufficient airtime.

“This service will be free to the initiator of the reverse call for up to two requests in a day. Subsequent reverse call requests made within the day (after the first two requests) will be charged an access fee of Sh0.5 per reverse call request,” Safaricom stated in the revised terms.
The company further clarified that this service is exclusively available for calls made within its network, ensuring that the feature benefits its own subscribers.
Safaricom originally launched the reverse call service in June 2019 as an extension of its “Please Call Me” feature.
This service was designed to assist customers by allowing them to transfer the cost of a call to the recipient, providing an essential communication tool for those who may not have airtime available.
With this latest update, Safaricom aims to balance the need for such a service with responsible usage, ensuring that it remains available to those who genuinely need it without overburdening the network.
