Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has ignores the court decision to nullify the Finance Act 2023 and included the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in its latest monthly revision of fuel prices irking Kenyans.

Even as EPRA retained the fuel prices at the pump for the next month, Kenyan motorists had expected the regulator to lower the prices following the annulment of the Finance Act 2023.

On Wednesday, EPRA announced that petrol will retail at Sh188.84 per litre, diesel at Sh171.60 per litre, and Kerosene at Sh161.75 a litre in Nairobi from September 15, to October 14, 2024.

These prices, according to EPRA, incorporated the 16 per cent VAT as mandated by the Finance Act 2023, which was last week annulled by the Court of Appeal, and Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020.

Kenyans took to social media to fault EPRA noting that VAT on petroleum products should return from the current 16 to 8.0 per cent as per Finance Act 2022, owing the court ruling.
