Kenya Airways was on Thursday morning forced to divert several flights scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.

In a customer update, the airline attributed the decision to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions.

As a result, the national carrier anticipates delays in departures and arrivals at JKIA.

“We wish to inform our customers that we have this morning, diverted to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro, some of our flights that were scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” read the statement. “This is due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions.”

The airline further explained that the diversion had led to delays in departures and arrivals at JKIA, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to passengers.

However, they assured customers that safety was paramount and that all necessary precautions had been taken to safeguard both crew and passengers.

“We understand that this may cause inconvenience, but please be assured that we have taken all necessary safety measures and the well-being of our crew, and customers are our number one priority,” the statement concluded.

The unexpected weather change has thrown travel plans into disarray, with passengers facing delays and alternative travel arrangements.

Kenya Airways has urged travellers to remain patient and check flight updates for the latest information.
