A new chapter in Kenyan rail travel is set to unfold as Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) introduces 20 opulent passenger coaches to its Madaraka Express service.

While the promise of unparalleled comfort and style is undeniable, the journey to this luxury comes at a steep price.

A one-way ticket to Mombasa in the premium class will set passengers back a substantial Sh12,000.

This hefty fare is a clear indication that Kenya Railways is aiming to cater to the high-end market, offering an exclusive travel experience for those willing to splurge.

Transport Principal Secretary Mohammed Daghar, who unveiled the coaches today, hailed the acquisition as a "significant milestone" for the Ministry of Roads and Transport.

"The acquisition of these 20 new passenger coaches is a crucial milestone as we strive to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery in the transport sector," Daghar declared.

The PS also expressed confidence in the coaches’ ability to delight passengers.

"Our customers will surely enjoy riding on these coaches," he enthused, adding, "The design and amenities provided are a guarantee of the nature of service we aspire to provide."

As Kenya Railways embarks on this new era of luxury rail travel, the question remains: will the allure of opulence outweigh the hefty price tag for passengers?
