The CS Trade and Industry Rebecca Miano announced today the official commencement of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Kenya and the European Union (EU).

This landmark agreement, central to the EU-Kenya Strategic Partnership, is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

"This EPA marks a significant milestone for Kenya's economic growth and trade relations," Miano stated.

"It provides duty-free access to the vast EU market, opening new avenues for Kenyan exporters."

The EPA is set to enhance trade in goods, increase investment flows, and strengthen ties between Kenya and the EU.

It includes provisions for sustainable development, covering labour issues, gender equality, forestry, environment, and climate change.

Kenya, a leading economic hub in Eastern Africa, expects substantial benefits from the agreement.

The EU is Kenya's top export destination and second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding €3.5 billion ((approximately Sh420 billion) in 2023.

Negotiated since June 2023, the EPA was signed on 18th December 2023, underscoring Kenya's commitment to integrating its economy with global markets.

Rebecca Miano highlighted the agreement's role in attracting EU investment and promoting economic stability.

Aligned with Kenya's trade policy and economic development strategies, the EPA aims to integrate Kenyan value chains into global markets, fostering economic growth and strengthening EU-Kenya relations.

With the EPA now in effect, Kenya anticipates seizing new economic opportunities and reinforcing its global trade position.
