Safaricom PLC, Kenya's leading telecommunications provider, announced a service disruption on Monday, affecting internet connectivity and some mobile applications.
The company attributed the outage to two undersea cables experiencing technical difficulties, impacting internet traffic flow in and out of the country.
"We have experienced an outage on two of our undersea cables that deliver internet traffic in and out of the country," Safaricom stated in a customer notice.
To mitigate the impact, Safaricom said it activated backup systems, aiming to minimize service interruption and maintain connectivity for its customers.
However, the company cautioned users about potential slowdowns and intermittent service on various applications, including the popular M-Pesa Super App and the Safaricom App.

The notice advised customers experiencing difficulties with the apps to utilize alternative solutions. "Customers are advised to use USSD *334# for M-Pesa services or the SIM Toolkit," Safaricom suggested.
Safaricom expressed appreciation for its customers' patience and understanding as they worked towards a complete restoration of the undersea cables.
The company did not provide a specific timeframe for when normal service would resume.
