In response to an exposé by Africa Uncensored regarding the quality of SBL Innovate's GPC subsidised organic fertiliser, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has swiftly moved to address the issue.

Following a meticulous investigation, which involved the collection of 59 samples, KEBS has determined that the product fails to meet the required standards.

"We conducted a thorough investigation and collected 59 samples, which showed that the product failed to meet our standards. As per our mandate, we have communicated this to the manufacturer and have given them strict conditions to maintain the same high-quality standards we expect. We intend to take legal action against them to ensure accountability," stated Esther Ngari, Managing Director of KEBS.

Consequently, KEBS has taken decisive action by withdrawing the standardisation mark from SBL Innovate and has instructed the manufacturer to recall all their products from the market.

This measure underscores KEBS's unwavering commitment to upholding stringent standards to safeguard the health and well-being of all Kenyans.

"I also want to thank Africa Uncensored for the investigation. The intelligence you gave us is very helpful and even in future we would want to receive any kind of intelligence because we depend on stakeholders to protect the consumers," Ngari added, acknowledging the valuable contribution of Africa Uncensored in bringing this matter to light.

The swift response from KEBS reflects the importance of proactive regulatory measures in maintaining product quality and consumer safety.

By enforcing stringent standards and holding manufacturers accountable, regulatory bodies like KEBS play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of goods available in the market.

As consumers increasingly rely on organic fertilisers for agricultural purposes, the need for stringent quality control measures becomes paramount.

KEBS's decisive action serves as a reminder to all manufacturers to adhere strictly to established standards, underscoring the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in the production and distribution of goods.

The cooperation between regulatory bodies and stakeholders highlights the significance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding consumer interests.

Moving forward, it is imperative for all stakeholders to remain vigilant and proactive in upholding the highest standards of product quality and safety.
