Following the recent surge in femicide incidents within short-term accommodations, popularly known as Airbnbs, the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), in collaboration with the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA), are set to launch extensive inspections of all registered properties, beginning February 5, 2024.

According to a joint statement by the Interior, Tourism, Higher Education and Gender and Affirmative Action Ministries, they will not only inspect but also tighten the reins on unregistered rentals through collaborative efforts with booking platforms.

"National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), in collaboration with the TRA, will commence stringent inspections of all registered properties," emphasizes the joint statement.

"We will subsequently coordinate with booking platforms to restrict unregistered rentals and further institute severe penalties, including fines and revocation."

Resident Associations are being actively encouraged to forge strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, fostering effective enforcement.

In an immediate response, all operators of short-term accommodation rentals, including Airbnbs, are mandated to register with the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA).
