Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested two Nairobi County officers for allegedly diverting revenue by manipulation the Nairobi Revenue Services portal.

Daniel Odidi Ganje, Officer-In-Charge of the Data Office at St Peter’s Claver Revenue Offices in Starehe; and John Gachagua Mburu, a student intern from Mt Kenya University (MKU).

The two suspects were processed at the EACC Police Station in Nairobi on Tuesday and later released on cash bail as they await to be arraigned after the ODPP gives the case file a nod.

According to a complainant who filed a case with EACC, the duo asked him to deposit Sh45,000 annual parking fees for his commercial vehicles into Gachagua’s personal account.

In the scheme to defraud the Nairobi City County government of collected revenue, Odidi and Gachagua said the illegal move would see the complainant pay less money for parking.

The two then entered the complainant’s car registration details into the portal indicating he had settled the parking fees for the whole year despite the county not receiving the cash.

EACC says the illegal revenue diversion is rampant in a number of counties with students on internship used to register firms which are registered on IFMIS to facilitate revenue frauds.

When payments are made to bank accounts of the proxy companies owned by the students, they are then asked to withdraw the monies to deliver to their masters and get their cut.

The anti-corruption commission has vowed to crack down on all the small and big perpetrators of such illegal acts promising stringent action against those fund culpable.
