Customers can now tip seamlessly with Pesapal's latest innovation, as the company introduces a groundbreaking feature allowing digital tipping directly on its POS devices.

In response to the flourishing trend of cashless transactions across East Africa, this forward-thinking move aims to enhance the tipping experience and simplify the process for both customers and businesses alike.

Fred Mwangima, Pesapal's Technical Director, highlighted the company's commitment to evolving with changing payment dynamics.

"As transactions go cashless, we are adapting our POS machines to accommodate digital tipping. With this new feature, we are providing a convenient way for customers to show their appreciation for good service," Mwangima stated.

Africa's domestic e-payments market, as projected by McKinsey Global Payment Map, is anticipated to witness an impressive 20 per cent annual growth, reaching approximately $40 billion by 2025.

The introduction of Pesapal's digital tipping feature aligns seamlessly with this projection, offering customers the ability to effortlessly include tips within their total bill on the POS machine, eliminating the need for cash tips.

Pesapal Group CEO, Agosta Liko, acknowledged the challenges brought about by the post-COVID era, stating, "Tipping is a great incentive for attendants to provide great service, but it has become more difficult in the post-covid era as most consumers migrate toward cashless transactions."

Streamlining the checkout process, the new feature displays the total amount due on the POS screen when the customer is ready to pay.

Alongside this, it provides options for adding a tip, including preset tip percentages or the flexibility to input a custom amount.

Once selected, the tip seamlessly integrates into the total bill, completing the transaction with the gratuity directly transferred to the customer's mobile wallet.

The digital tipping experience reflects the broader digitization trend observed across various industries, including hospitality, retail, service, entertainment, healthcare, and fuel stations.

Merchants with existing Pesapal POS terminals can effortlessly activate this feature through a straightforward software update, ensuring a smooth transition to this innovative payment option.

As East Africa continues to embrace the digital era, Pesapal's move to revolutionize tipping on POS devices marks a significant step towards a more convenient and efficient payment landscape, catering to the evolving preferences of both customers and businesses alike.
