Safaricom, East African Breweries (EABL) and Vivo have announced a strategic collaboration to introduce The Bar and Shell apps on the M-PESA Super App.

This partnership aims to enhance customer convenience and provide added value to users of the popular mobile payment platform.

The Bar app, developed by EABL, introduces an exciting feature for M-PESA users, allowing them to shop for drinks with free delivery or book a bar setup for parties.

Customers can seamlessly make payments through the M-PESA App, making it a seamless and efficient experience for consumers.

Furthermore, Vivo will offer customers who fuel up at Shell outlets a loyalty app that automatically links to their M-PESA accounts.

This innovative integration enables customers to earn loyalty points based on their M-PESA payment transactions.

These points can later be redeemed for a range of select items and services at Shell outlets, enhancing the overall value proposition for M-PESA users.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We are excited to welcome East African Breweries and Vivo as partners on the M-PESA Super App. The Bar and Shell apps will provide the more than 3 million customers on the app with increased convenience of shopping online, coupled with free deliveries and more value when fuelling at Shell outlets."

"These partnerships are part of our goal to enable our customers to do more through the M-PESA Super App by digitally connecting them to different businesses and services on our platform," Ndegwa said.

The rollout of The Bar and Shell apps is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, expanding the range of offerings available through the M-PESA Super App.

These new additions will join over 60 other firms, including government parastatals and counties, which provide their services through apps hosted on the M-PESA Super App.

Safaricom continues to support these businesses by offering hosting, distribution, and marketing support on its platform.

The M-PESA Super App has seen a remarkable increase in user adoption, with more than 3 million customers currently utilizing its services, up from 1.2 million in April 2023.

In Safaricom's most recent financial year, which ended in April 2023, the Super App facilitated an impressive 489 million transactions, amounting to a value of Sh1.3 trillion.

With the introduction of The Bar and Shell apps on the M-PESA Super App, Safaricom aims to further solidify its position as a leading provider of digital services in East Africa.

By leveraging strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as EABL and Vivo, Safaricom continues to drive digital transformation and enhance the customer experience for its growing user base.
