KCB Group has promoted Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR) Managing Director George Odhiambo to head National Bank of Kenya (NBK) months after leading a merger of the two.

The move was announced in the changes in leadership by KCB on Thursday.

Odhiambo was appointed to KCB Group in Rwanda in 2009 to head the Business Analytics and Transformation Project before rising to become its head of Retail Banking in 2013.

In 2017, he became the MD and is credited with greatly improving KCB Rwanda operations before being appointed the BPR Rwanda MD in April 2022 to lead its merger process.

Patience Mutesi, who previously served as the Country Director for TradeMark East Africa from July 2016, will replace Odhiambo with effect from February 1, 2023.

Before that Mutesi headed corporate banking at Ecobank Rwanda and has been a non-executive member of BPR Bank Rwanda, Rwanda Cooperation and MTN Rwandacell PLC.

She holds an MBA in finance from Maastricht School of Management in Netherlands and a BSc Honours in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University in Uganda.

Mutesi is also an Eisenhower Fellow and an alumnus of the Swedish Institute of Management Programme.
