Catch Taxi Kenya has made a debut into the very competitive Kenyan ride hailing market.

Catch, which has Ethiopian roots is entering Kenya after a successful launch in Ethiopia and is expected to join the already crowded taxi hailing transport sector.

According to Catch Taxi CEO Nafie Omar, the taxi hailing service is planning to venture into other East Africa countries after Kenyan then spread to West Africa.

“In terms of ride-hailing, Nairobi is a more mature market compared to most cities in Africa. Our goal at Catch Taxi is to be able to create a footing in all African markets, both young and mature markets,” said Omar.

Catch Taxi has slashed its fares by 30 per cent during the Christmas period to attract more clients to cross over from other hailing apps during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Catch similarly launched a holiday campaign dubbed Ride Sawa, Kamata Catch, to go together with the fare reduction move that will apply in Nairobi and upcountry.

Omar said the lowered fares will apply to riders using its Lada, Easy and XL taxi categories.

“Additionally, drivers who enjoy high ratings and observe road safety protocols during the Christmas holiday season will be highly rewarded by the start-up,” he said.

Catch boasts of 1,000 taxi drivers on board as it seeks to shake Uber, Bolt and Cabby among other taxi hailing apps and take its place in the very competitive market.
