The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has launched the EmpowerHER Patrons Circle, a new platform aimed at increasing women’s access to capital, improving financial literacy, and expanding their role in Kenya’s investment and business spaces.
The initiative focuses on helping women from all levels—starting at the grassroots—to grow into leaders, investors, and business owners through targeted support, mentorship, and education.
Demi Murila, who heads the NSE EmpowerHER programme, said the platform goes beyond awareness and is intended to bring real change.
“This is not just a programme, but a transformative movement,” she said.
“We believe that women deserve the full spectrum of tools, resources, and networks needed to excel as investors, business owners, and market leaders. Through the Patrons Circle, we are embedding leadership, clear structure, and long-term sustainability at the heart of gender inclusion.”

NSE Chief Executive Frank Mwiti said that the launch of the NSE EmpowerHER Patrons Circle heralds a new chapter in inclusive finance, with the ambition to empower one million women through financial literacy and investor education, facilitate capital access for over 100 women-led enterprises, and cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of female leaders in the capital markets.
“We aim to empower one million women through financial literacy and investor education, facilitate capital access for over 100 women-led enterprises, and cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of female leaders in capital markets,” Mwiti stated.
NSE Chairman Kiprono Kittony added that closing the gender gap is not only fair but also smart for business and the wider economy.
“Gender inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s essential for stronger businesses and a flourishing economy,” she said.
“NSE EmpowerHER is unlocking doors and laying down lasting pathways for generations of women to thrive.”
The event, which included a panel discussion on gender and economic participation, was attended by Mary Muinde, the chief of staff of the Office of the First Lady, Rachel Ruto.
Speakers included DTB CEO Nasim Devji, UBA Kenya’s Mary Mulili, FSD Kenya’s Tamara Cook, and Sonal Tejpar, Chairperson of the British Chamber of Commerce.
As part of the launch, several senior leaders committed to a 36-month programme where they will mentor and support women, advocate for better inclusion, and use their influence to help more women participate meaningfully in the economy.
Through this new platform, the NSE says it is taking concrete steps to remove long-standing barriers and build a more inclusive financial market where women have equal chances to succeed.
