The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) says the massive delay of flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday was caused by a power systems hitch.

According to KCCA, the said failure in the international airport’s power systems adversely affected the air traffic system equipment at the airport.

KCAA Director Gilbert Kibe said, in a statement, that the power glitch occasioned an increase in the separation of aircraft in order to ensure safety of planes and passengers.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority wishes to inform the public that a failure of power systems affected our air traffic system equipment at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport that resulted in degraded communication between aircraft and air traffic control,” Kibe said.

The Authority added that that the movement of aircraft was slowly getting back to normal at the country’s largest airport after the power failure was resolved.

KCAA issued an apology to all passengers who were affected by delays in flight departures and landing, vowing to ensure safety of flights into and out of the Kenyan airspace.
