Jumia has launched a Food Festival Campaign to take place from October 1-31.

The campaign has been organised in partnership with local restaurants and international restaurant chains including KFC, Burger King and McDonald’s.

The campaign’s objective is to raise awareness on hardships restaurants have been facing owing to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions like limited opening hours and reduced capacity.

Jumia is optimistic the campaign will encourage clients to support restaurants and order more food online, with discounts of up to 50 per cent and free delivery promised during the festival.

“Our restaurant partners have been through tough times over the past few months and are still suffering from COVID-19 related response measures, the safest way to support our local restaurants and save jobs is to order online,” said Sam Chappatte, Jumia Kenya CEO.

“We want to raise awareness on the difficulties our partners have faced and the significant number of jobs that have been lost in the industry but also do our part to help re-energize the sector and get people back to work.”

The pandemic has resulted in a worldwide increase in online shopping, with many consumers making their first online purchases during this period.

A study conducted by Nielsen found an increase of 30 per cent of online consumers in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa during the period of the Coronavirus lockdown.

The Food Festival will be conducted in the eight countries where Jumia Food operates, that is Kenya, Uganda, Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Nigeria and Tunisia.
