National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) on Wednesday launched Economy Max, a product which will allow its customers to acquire extra personal space by booking a seat or the whole row.

KQ says Economy Max, a first by an African carrier, will be available to all KQ airline passengers buying Economy Class tickets across the world from 48 to 3 hours before the flight departure.

A study released by IATA in July 2020, travellers are looking for means to help them regain confidence about flying again following the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

KQ Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu said the product will meet the dynamic needs of travellers by allowing them to book an empty seat or a row next to them in the KQ planes.

“The world we live in has changed. As an airline, we continue to adapt to the evolving needs of our customers as we recover from the effects of the pandemic,” Thairu said.

He also said, “Economy Max puts passengers in control of their experience and ensures that our customers have a choice as they enjoy their privacy with additional space to themselves.”

KQ passengers can buy Economy Max seats online and pay through credit card and once complete they will receive a confirmation email with information on the flight and seat allocated to them.

“Economy Max is a continuation of KQ’S diversification and innovation to provide relevant products and services to our customers to improve the overall experience of their travels with us,” he added.
