British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya has been named a Top Employer in Kenya and Africa by the Top Employers Institute for the sixth consecutive time.

BAT Kenya was among 15 companies that were crowned as the world’s best businesses to work for during a virtual award ceremony conducted on Tuesday.

Internationally, the BAT Group was certified as a Top Employer in a total of 37 countries spread across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

The Top Employer certification is based on an extensive review of employer practices across six human resource domains and 20 topics, including People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Well-being, as well as Diversity & Inclusion.

Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink noted that the global Top Employers continue to prioritise going above and beyond to maintain excellent people practices in the workplace.

“As a global Top Employer, BAT has proved their unwavering commitment to their employees on an international level that spans numerous countries,” said Plink.

He added, “They join a small group of 15 companies that have achieved a global certification through the Top Employers Programme. We are excited to celebrate and applaud them for their achievement in 2023.”

On his part, BAT Kenya Managing Director Crispin Achola welcomed the award for the sixth time saying it recognises BAT's diverse, all-inclusive and enabling working environment.

“Guided by our Ethos (Bold, Fast, Empowered, Diverse, Responsible), we are continually striving to maintain a workplace where employees feel well-supported, even through the ongoing challenging times,” stated Achola.

He added, “Our employees play a crucial role in the delivery of our purpose to build A Better Tomorrow by reducing the health impact of our business, driving environmental excellence and ensuring robust corporate governance across the business.”

The Top Employer certification process is conducted yearly by the Top Employers Institute, an independent organisation that analyses employee offerings of major firms globally.

The certification fetes employers who provide best-in-class employment practices, allowing personal and professional development for employees while driving business results.

The participating companies across the globe undergo a rigorous assessment process that includes an extensive review of their employer practices.

Thereafter several validation sessions are conducted where evidence of these best employer practices are provided, and an independent audit of the findings is also done.
