Carrefour has finally opened a new branch in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) as it decides to face its retail market competitors that have dominated the city center for years.

The new Carrefour branch is situated at Comet House on Monrovia Street and has set its eyes on shoppers who operate and like doing their shopping in the Nairobi CBD.

The new outlet in Kenya is the 19th branch of the French supermarket chain giant with the local franchise operated by the Majid Al Futtaim based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“The new store allows us to move closer and serve customers that previously could not access our products while at work or in the CBD,” said Majid Al Futtaim in a statement.

Other Carrefour retail outlets in Nairobi are located in Two Rivers, The Hub, Garden City, TRM, Southfield Mall, Village Market, Sarit Center, Nairobi Mega Mall, Next Gen Mall and Galleria Mall.

Carrefour says the new retail outlet will stock fresh foods, consumer items, as well as household, personal hygiene and cleaning products.

“Kenya remains a key market in our expansion strategy, with many opportunities to grow our network across the country through physical stores and e-commerce offering,” it added.

Carrefour unveiled its first store in Kenya in 2016 and currently competes with Naivas, Quickmart and Chandarana for the very competitive, fast-changing and ruthless retail space.
