Africa Logistics Properties (ALP) has unveiled a new modern warehousing facility at ALP West Logistics Park in Limuru, Kiambu County to ease supply chain management for small and medium sized enterprises.

ALP broke ground for the warehouses, which have been named Kyoga after a Ugandan lake in which River Nile flows through en route to Lake Albert from Lake Victoria, in June 2021.

The facility, which is part of the larger ALP West complex situated in Tilisi, measures 107,639 square feet and will comprise seven phases measuring up to 1,076,391 square feet.

The facility is sustainably developed grade A warehousing maintaining 44 and 51 per cent energy and water savings respectively, and 50 per cent less energy in embodied materials.

Speaking at the facility’s official opening, Trade, Investment and Industry CS Moses Kuria underlined the Kenya Kwanza government’s pledge to attract more investment into Kenya.

“I want to reiterate the commitment of the government to promote investments and welcome investors to create jobs and help increase incomes and improve Kenya’s competiveness on the regional and global stages. What delights me is the business model. What you are doing as ALP is empowering and enabling businesses,” Kuria said.

On his part, ALP CEO Richard Hough reaffirmed their pledge to provide quality warehousing for all sizes of businesses, while spearheading climate-smart industrial real estate growth.

“We are in the business of making operations easier for our customers, regardless of the size. Our commitment to ensuring all our tenants, and by extension other businesses in Kenya, experience climate-smart and modern warehousing that meets their current and future needs,” said Hough.

He added: “Kyoga, just as the Courtyard, our first development at ALP West, is designed to small and medium sized enterprises to modern warehousing. The energy and water savings in addition to all the other conveniences our tenants enjoy all reflect on stronger bottom lines that allow them to scale up and grow to impact even more people and businesses.”

Since entering the Kenyan market in 2017, ALP has also been running warehouses in Ruiru, Kiambu County, and houses various firms including e-commerce giants Twiga Foods and Copia.

The Courtyard, phase 1 of ALP West, which is 86 per cent occupied, was voted the best industrial and logistics development at the 2022 Africa Property Investment Awards in South Africa.
