Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Thursday arrested Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General of the Director General Pavel Oimeke. 

EACC said Oimeke’s arrest follows a report filed by an employee of a fuel station in Oyugis, Homa Bay County, that he had allegedly demanded a Sh200,000 bribe.

The complainant told EACC the EPRA boss allegedly demanded the cash to approve reopening of the petrol station which was closed after being found in possession of super export petrol.

The station had been fined Sh309,842 by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) which they paid and were issued with a clearance letter to be taken to the DG to authorise the station’s reopening.

However, the complainant said EPRA delayed releasing the authorisation letter prompting them to visit EPRA headquarters on December 1 and allegedly met Oimeke and got acquainted.

EACC said the complainant visited EACC offices on Thursday and filed a report and they waylaid Oimeke at EPRA headquarters with treated Sh200,000 in cash.

On handing over the cash to the EPRA boss at his office, the EACC sleuths pounced on his and took him to the Integrity Centre Police Station pending further investigation into the claims.

He is expected to be arraigned as soon the probe into the bribery claims is concluded.
