More than 200 tones of fish worth Sh50 million meant for export could go bad if the Kenya-Uganda fishing impasse is not resolved.

Fish traders in Busia have called on agricultural CS Peter Munya to resolve the fishing stalemate between the two countries so that they can export their produce.

The over 700 traders revealed that the standoff has frozen their export business as the authority in Uganda seize the cargo on grounds of smuggling.

Officials from the Uganda fisheries unit had in early October impounded five Kenyan tracks ferrying fish at the Mpondwe border, one of the the major crosses between the two countries and DR Congo.

The seizing of the fish threatens to throw Uganda and Kenya into another trade row following the countries burn of Ugandan goods in recent years include milk and sugar on the ground that they were substandard.
