British Airways’ first passenger flight between Nairobi and London resumed from Sunday.

The long-awaited flight departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Terminal 1A on Sunday at 23:10 hours and landed in London at 06:15 hours on Monday 06 September.

These direct return flights from Nairobi to the UK are set to enable many people to reunite with their loved ones who had been kept apart due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

“We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our flights and we are honoured to be playing our part in reuniting families and friends with their loved ones after such a long time apart,” said Sohail Ali, British Airways’ Senior Vice President, Middle East and Africa, Airport Operations.

He added, “The safety of our customers and colleagues has always been at the heart of everything we do. We know some customers won’t have flown for a long time, we can assure them we have a range of Covid-19 measures in place to provide stress and hassle-free travel.”

Customers booking with British Airways can now do so via its flexible booking policy and exchange their booking for a voucher or move their dates without incurring a change fee.

British Airways’ existing online Covid hub includes information on flexible bookings, testing, how to use a voucher and what the British Airways flying experience looks like for those that haven’t travelled for some time.

The British carrier also introduced a number of measures at the airport and on board the planes to look after the safety and wellbeing of its customers and colleagues.

Among the measures adopted include social distancing measures, wearing of face masks and provision of hand sanitiser stations.

Before the travel, customers will also receive details on how they can prepare for their journey, including information on discounted testing providers.

To help customers navigate the ever-changing entry requirement and facilitate a seamless journey, passengers can download the VeriFLY app before departing to London.

The digital health app allows customers to combine their travel verification documents and Covid-19 test results in one place and confirming their eligibility with a few simple steps.
