Kenya’s largest mobile service operator Safaricom has announced an increase in artist and content creator’s revenue share from Skiza tunes.

The move will benefit more than 200,000 artists and content creators in the country.

Artists and content creators will benefit from increased earnings of 40 per cent from all their items on the platform.

This comes after an initiative by Homabay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga saw artists celebrate a 25 per cent excise duty exemption for artists on the Skiza platform.

Royal Media Services owner SK Macharia organized and hosted the occasion that had many politicians in attendance at his home in Gatanga.

Every artist or content creator will receive 43 cents from each shilling earned up from 16 cents.

Safaricom through its CEO Peter Ndegwa said the move is a long-term strategy to support talent and boost the creative industry through innovation.

With effect from July 1, 2021, the increase in revenue share for all content on the platform applied for both music and non-music tones.
