Kenyan families are feeling the breakfast pain as the price of bread rose again by between Sh5 and Sh8 as bakers passed the extra cost wheat prices to consumers in the country.

This is the second time the price of bread has increased after bakers in January made a similar hike but were forced to reconsider after realising prices of bread manufacut=red by supermarkets remained lower.

The latest price revision has seen the 400g loaf of Superloaf bread retail at Sh55 from Sh50 as the 800g of Festive bread retailed at Sh100 from the previous Sh92.

Many households in Kenya use bread in their breakfast daily and are bound to feel the pinch ahead of the reopening of schools, coming after the prices of milk also went tup.

The price increase comes as the price of a tonne of wheat rose from Sh25,300 to Sh34,240 in 2020 amid calls for government intervention to help bring the prices down.

The result of this is that the cost of wheat flour has also gone up coming at a time when Kenyans are already grappling with a high cost of living occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic.

The inflation in Kenya went up from 5.78 percent in February to 5.9 per cent in March.
